To coincide with this blog no longer being an Instagram dump, here is a rip of a tape my uncle gave me this past summer when I stopped by Buffalo, NY on tour with Caddywhompus.
Back In The Saddle Again: American Cowboy Songs was a gift to him and he passed it my way. It’s a great mix of very old country songs, filled with references to cowboy lingo that I am totally in the dark about, among other things. It rules. However, due to repeat listens in the 4Runner tape deck which slowly destroys cassettes and worried about the tape’s well-being, we were forced to put our jamming to a halt. Recently, I ripped what I could of the tape. Some of the tracks fade in and out of total destruction, and often you can hear the flipside of the tape in reverse. It’s fun and kinda creepy.
New download links should work properly now.
Also, some new information: My uncle, Tom Rooney, got this mixtape from his friend, Andrew Skwish («link to some of his art), an illustrator and “mega music fan”. He’s made several tapes like this for my dear uncle. He also did the illustration on the mixtape (some of it is pictured above). Tom speaks of him in the highest regard.
